Our visit was one of their high-lights in their older years for Barrett "fixed" everything in the house that was broken. Until his dying day, Emmett was still chuckling over a toaster, taken apart and repaired perfectly, only there was one piece left over...."

Emmett was shown as a 35-year-old general farmer, born TX; Addie (shown as Eddie) was age 28, born TX. The census indicates that she was the mother of six, three surviving (only three children have ever been identified as born to this marriage). All three children -- Bill (called Willie), age 8; Pete (called Sammy), age 6; and Lucille, age 3 -- were shown as born TX. Bill and Pete had attended school within the prior year.4

Harris with his family on the 1920 Wichita County census in Iowa Park. He is shown as 44 years old and a teamster in general hauling, born in Texas of parents who were both born in Missouri. Addie Lee Cottrell Harris is shown as 37 years old, born in Texas of parents who were both born in Texas. (Note: Mattie H. Johnson Cottrell's obituary states she was born in Kentucky but raised in Texas.) Three Harris children are on the census: "Willie" (Gilbert William, called "Bill"), age 20, a salesman in a retail auto shop; Sam (always called Pete), age 18, a laborer in an express office, and 13-year-old Lucille, who was going to school. The family had two lodgers: 18-year-old Mallory Edwards, who appears to be a co-worker of Pete's; and 35-year-old Sam Cantor, who appears to be an employee of the hauling company.5

Also enumerated with the family were two lodgers, Mallory Edwards, an 18-year-old laborer in an express office (possibly a co-worker of Pete's), and Sam Canter, 35, a teamster for a general hauling firm (possibly a co-worker of Emmett's).6 
    1930 Census12 Apr 1930 Charley Emmett Harris and Addie Cottrell Harris appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Iowa Park, Wichita County, TX, enumerated 12 Apr 1930. Emmett was shown as Charles E., age 55, a teamster in the general hauling business, born TX; Addie was age 48, married 32 years, born TX. Pete, shown as Sam W., was a 27-year-old chauffeur to a private family. The Harris family owned their own home, valued at $600, and owned a radio.7 
    Death6 Jan 1968 Charley Emmett Harris died on 6 Jan 1968 at Iowa Park, Wichita County, TX, at age 93.

    Birthaft 2 Jun 1880 Myrtie Henson, daughter of Aaron C. Henson Sr. and Sarah Jane Cottrell, was born aft 2 Jun 1880 at prob Parker County, TX. This daughter is not shown on the census of 1880, dated 2 June, and thus was born thereafter. She was mentioned in the last will and testament of her father Aaron C. Henson, dated January 31, 1917. She had received a settlement, presumably of her mother's estate, in the year 1900 and thus presumably was married at the time since she was still legally a minor. 
    Marriagebef 1900 Myrtie Henson married Husband of Myrtie Henson Law bef 1900 at prob TX. Aaron Henson's will, executed in 1917, mentioned that he left only $1000 to his daughter Myrtie Law since she had received a settlement in the year 1900. Since Aaron and his first wife, Sarah Jane Cottrell, were married in 1880, and Myrtie was born thereafter (she was not shown on the June 1880 federal census with her parents), Myrtie would have been a minor at the time of that settlement, and thus probably legally unable to be bound by it unless she was married. For that reason it is theorized that she was married before 1900.1

    1910 Census9 May 1910 Henry Dixon Holley and Nettie Cottrell Holley appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Wichita County, TX, enumerated 9 May 1910. H. Dixon Holley was shown as age 33, born FL; Nettie as age 28, born TX. Myrtle was one year old. The census indicates the Holleys had been married four years and that Nettie had another child who did not survive. A records check in Wichita County shows that a baby "Mary Holly", aged six months and 26 days, died of hydrocephalus in Iowa Park in November 1907.3

    BirthAug 1862 Robert C. Hollis was born in Aug 1862 at prob TN. The 1900 and 1920 census records show his place of birth as TN, as well as the birthplace of both parents; the 1910 census indicates TX with both parents simply born US. It is more likely that the more specific information is correct than the less specific.1 
    Marriage15 Nov 1885 He married Margaret "Arby" Cottrell, daughter of George Washington Cottrell and Martha Louisa Baker, on 15 Nov 1885 at Parker County, TX. Transcriptions of this marriage record shows R.C. Hollis and "Arley" Cottrell. On review of the document itself, however, it appears that the name was always given as "Arby", which appears to have been Margaret's middle name. That Arley/Arby and Margaret are one and the same is shown by census records: in 1900, Robert C. Hollis and Margaret A. Hollis are in Wilbarger County, married 15 years; in 1910, R.C. Hollis and Arby Hollis are in Wichita County, married 24 years; in 1920, they are in Stonewall County. Cladyne Cottrell Barrett recalls stories of her father's sisters talking about their Aunt Arby who would come to the house for dinner, eat like a horse but always have to leave to go home before the washing up.

Hollis, age 46, born TX of parents born in US, married 24 years to Arby, age 45, born TX to parents both born NC. Note that no occupation is listed but merely "own income".2 
    Census1920 He appeared on the census of 1920 at Aspermont, Stonewall County, TX; shown as R.C. Hollis, age 57, born TN of parents born TN, engaged in farming, living with wife Arby, age 56, born TX of parents born TX.3 
    Death15 May 1928 He died on 15 May 1928 at Stonewall or Taylor County, TX, at age 65. There is a book of burials at Aspermont Cemetery that lists an R.D. Hollis during the same period when many of the Cottrell descendants (Mary Green, Eugene and Ludy Aycock, etc.) were living in Stonewall County. Particularly because of this Hollis' date of birth (August 15, 1862), it is most likely that this is the husband of Margaret "Arby" Cottrell. (On the 1900 census he stated his birth date as August 1862 and land belonging to the Hollis' switched from his name to hers as of 1928.). 
    Burialaft 15 May 1928 He was buried aft 15 May 1928 at Aspermont Cemetery, Aspermont, Stonewall County, TX. A book of burials at the Aspermont Cemetery in Stonewall County lists an R.D. Hollis, born August 15, 1862 and died May 15, 1928. That is most like the husband of Margaret "Arby" Cottrell, particularly since on the 1900 census he stated his birth date as August 1862 and land belonging to the Hollis' switched from his name to hers as of 1928.
