Not a lot is known about William Baker or his wife (and cousin) Nancy Ann Gambill. As shown on the Pamunkey Bakers website, here's what we think we know:

Descendants of William Baker

Generation One

1. William1 Baker, son of Thomas Baker and Dorothy Davenport, was born on 20 Jul 1735 at prob Hanover County, VA. He married Ann Gambill, daughter of Henry Gambill and Mary Davenport, circa 1758 at Culpeper County, VA.

Research into the descendants of William and Ann Gambill Baker was done by others and has not been verified as yet. The line is offered at this time for research purposes only. Nonetheless, DNA evidence as of 2007 certainly establishes that Adam Jackson Baker is in fact descended from Thomas (and Dorothy Davenport) Baker through one of their sons, and William is the most likely candidate.

+ 2 i. Thomas2 Baker , son of William Baker and Ann Gambill, was born circa 1760. Descendants of this Thomas Baker identify his birthplace as Wilkes County NC. If the date of c1760 is correct, that is most unlikely. As of 1763, William Baker (father of this Thomas) was still actively involved in land transactions in Culpeper County VA. He married Mally Cantwell circa 1785.

Generation Two

2. Thomas2 Baker (William1), son of William Baker and Ann Gambill, was born circa 1760. Descendants of this Thomas Baker identify his birthplace as Wilkes County NC. If the date of c1760 is correct, that is most unlikely. As of 1763, William Baker (father of this Thomas) was still actively involved in land transactions in Culpeper County VA. He married Mally Cantwell circa 1785.

Children of Thomas2 Baker and Mally Cantwell were:

+ 3 i. Adam Jackson3 Baker , son of Thomas Baker and Mally Cantwell, was born on 16 May 1811 at NC. He married Margery Baldwin circa 1828.

Generation Three

3. Adam Jackson3 Baker (Thomas2, William1), son of Thomas Baker and Mally Cantwell, was born on 16 May 1811 at NC. He married Margery Baldwin circa 1828.
He and Margery Baldwin Baker appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Ashe County, NC, enumerated 25 Jul 1850. Adam Jackson was shown as Jackson, a 35-year-old farmer born NC; Margery was shown as Marga, age 37, born NC. Their children Riley, Mary, William H., Hiram, Martin, Noah and Joseph were listed as living with them. All of the children -- Riley, 15; Mary, 13; William H., 10; Hiram, 8; Martin, 6; Noah, 4; and Joseph, 1 -- were shown as born NC. He and Margery Baldwin Baker appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Fort Hembree District, Cherokee County, NC, enumerated 15 Aug 1860. Adam Jackson was shown as AJ, a 48-year-old farmer born Ashe County NC; Margery was shown as Maga, age 48, born Ashe County NC. Their children Hiram, Martin, Noah, Joseph and Mary were listed as living with them. All of the children -- Hiram, 18; Martin, 15; Noah, 13; Joseph,12; and married daughter Mary Baker Jones, 21 -- were shown as born Ashe County NC. Enumerated with the family were Mary's husband George W. Jones, age 22, born Smith County VA, and their infant son, Joseph A., age 3 months, born Cherokee County NC.

Children of Adam Jackson3 Baker and Margery Baldwin all born at NC were as follows:

+ 5 ii. Mary Baker , daughter of Adam Jackson Baker and Margery Baldwin, was born on 6 Jul 1838. She married George W. Jones circa 1858.
6 iii. William H. Baker, son of Adam Jackson Baker and Margery Baldwin, was born on 16 Apr 1841.
7 iv. Hiram Baker, son of Adam Jackson Baker and Margery Baldwin, was born on 3 Jul 1842.
8 v. Martin Baker, son of Adam Jackson Baker and Margery Baldwin, was born on 16 Feb 1845.
9 vi. Noah Baker, son of Adam Jackson Baker and Margery Baldwin, was born on 25 Apr 1847.
10 vii. Joseph Baker, son of Adam Jackson Baker and Margery Baldwin, was born on 3 Apr 1849.

Generation Four

5. Mary4 Baker (Adam3, Thomas2, William1), daughter of Adam Jackson Baker and Margery Baldwin, was born on 6 Jul 1838 at NC. She married George W. Jones circa 1858.
Children of Mary4 Baker and George W. Jones were:
